Integrated Dance Summit for Programmers. Pavillion Dance South West and Foundation for Community Dance. 16th & 17th May 2014
March 13, 2014
Integrated Dance Summit at Bournemouth Pavilion.
I have been invited to take part in the two event with a billing of dance and a day of networking for artistic programmers as part of a group of reviewers. I am very much looking forward to working with and meeting other writers and getting stuck into some unusual creative tasks. Writing full reviews and blogging/tweeting will be accompanied by responses to the dance works in the form of performance poetry or haikus. It is time to up my game and apply the sense of play and creativity that I am growing in my studio practice to my skills with words. Having discovered that a haiku is a three line poem that follows a structure of 5-7-5 syllables, I have spent several hours brainstorming words and counting on my fingers successfully half finishing four haikus. Often beginning with a description or discussion in on sentence for the first two lines and ending with a concluding phrase for the last line. Japanese Haikus often continued meaningful undercurrents layered with the subject matter of nature. I will be adapting this traditional format to present a response to the dance pieces performed at The Summit and will be practicing… hard! My first attempts will follow shortly…
