'Bloody Poetry' 26th February 2014, Depth Charge, UOW
Depth Charge presented Howard Brenton’s Bloody Poetry at the University of Winchester. Directed by Peter Billingham the cast entered the university from the cemetery opposite, collecting the audience members in a procession towards the chapel. A cosy setting lit by candles with the audience lining the aisle, provided an intimate space for the six cast members. Romantic poets, Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelly’s explosive, and emotive lives were experienced to the extremes in a living picture of Romanticism exposing its darker side. Of note were Aidan Valentine and Marco Carraro who embodied their characters with a certain charisma. The use of silhouette and tableaus created an evocative cave scene which complimented the charming use of space.
